A dibble is for planting bare root stock like fruit trees, berry stock and other trees. Ground need to be somewhat soft so after spring rains is good – you push this in shift the earth to one side – put in bare root plant. Put in again in ground adjacent to the plant then push the ground against the plant. NO DIGGING HOLES or having dirt and plant sink when watered. Plant tons of bare root stock very quickly. You Tube has a number of great videos examples of how this works.
Found this dandy little tool after digging over 30 holes to plant bare root fruit trees on my farm. Used for only a few trees but this year I’m ready for the no sweat version of building an orchard for pesticide free self sufficiency for cider – jams – frozen fruits for winter baking and fresh ripened fruit right off the tree. Plus the plants that bring the butterfly and birds to the yard.

Got my Bully Bar today. Perfect timing. I had to plant 50 Christmas Trees. It’s early Spring here in Oregon, this soil is concrete hard during the summer, but in early spring it’s somewhat manageable. Worked like an ACE, I’m a pretty big guy that really laid some weight into it. Especially during the last four digs once I knew I was done just to see how much sand this tool actually had. Weld never broke! I’d recommend it to my best friend.

We planted 150 seedling trees in clay/sandy loam soil. Soil was damp and not too hard, it worked fine. The welds on the product *did* appear cold without great penetration, so I’m sure they could break given enough stress in hard soil. If you have a 200amp welder then you need not be too worried.

The bar is sturdy. The welding on it is well done with no visible weakness. It slides into the ground with ease. It makes planting seedling almost effortless.
