very well made. Diameter not as large as my old one so the dirt (aka clay) is a little harder to push back out. But it is holding up well after 50+ holes.

Tapored tip weas an unexpected but appreciated property. Worked great in unfrozen ground. Have not had to try it since cold weather has arrived.

Researched several, and really glad I settled on this brand with 3″ dia and exceptional 9″ deep/long. North Texas hard-when-dry and sticky-when-wet does require extra effort to insert (twist & turn, step on tube instead of bar when necessary to stomp it), and to clean out sticky black clay (not a fault of the tool that some soils simply have to be scraped off). So ignore those evaluations who want a tool to do all the work in adverse conditions – this is a very sturdy metal tool that will do the job for you.

It works pretty good but still “clogs” up, might want to carry a long stick or something to clear it out each time you dig.

I use this for planting bulbs and annuals too. It is wonderful, I am delighted to have found this line of tools. I am so tired of cheap quality tools that don’t perform well.

Bully indeed! We used this bulb planter to dig out 216 cylindrical holes for our kurapia plugs (a low-water groundcover). Took us less than 5 minutes to dig each hole. To dig in hard clay soil, you must drip water around the cylinder and twist it clockwise & counterclockwise. Sometimes you may need to clip a tree root or two, but fairly easy to dig overall. Just use a broom handle to force the dirt out of the cylinder. Easy-peasy and actually fun, but don’t tell your kids that – otherwise you may be complaining that they aren’t sharing the toy/tool!

Heavy duty tool. Won’t break easily. Wish it was sharper, but the biased point is long and digs well. If your soil is good dirt (not clayish like mine) this tool will perform great. Clay tends to become packed and difficult to get out. Wish there was some way to open the digger to remove the clay.

Good product at a reasonable cost, and it is made
Here.

Planted 30 bulbs. If there are roots, small ones, it works well but you do need to get down an dig out, cut small roots, etc.
I haven’t tried it on other soil types, yet. Happy with it.

Very well made. Used it to plant 200 Muscari bulbs in 1 1/2 hours. Have to give hands a rest for a day – even with leather gloves almost blisters are forming on soft edge of palms from twisting the handle. Blisters forming on usual callous areas too. Doesn’t work in soft sand because the walls collapse. Would best be a 2 person operation with one person twisting the dirt out and the other on his/her knees pulling any residual dirt out of the hole, planting the bulb and using a broom handle/old screw driver to push the dirt out of the cylinder.
